C+K awarding body licensed for another 3 years

C+K are licensed for another 3 years for the National Quality in Careers Standard. Find out what it means to schools, colleges, and students.

C+K Careers have been successfully relicensed as a Quality in Careers awarding body, following assessment by the Quality in Careers Consortium. This means C+K continue to be an awarding body for the national award for learning providers.

What is the C+K Quality in Careers Award?

We have worked with schools and colleges since 1999, recognising excellence in careers education through a quality award in careers. It supports continuous improvement and innovation within careers education.

The Quality in Careers Standard is the single national quality award for careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG). The Standard is fully aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and complies with the DfE’s Statutory Guidance.

To gain the Standard – secondary schools, academies, colleges and other learning providers must demonstrate that they meet national accreditation criteria in their careers provision. As a licensed awarding body, we assess learning providers on these criteria.

What does the licensing process for C+K entail?

We submitted a 10,000-word application as part of the re-licensing process and presented to a panel of careers experts. The presentation looked at the value and impact of the programme in schools, and how it has been successfully implemented.

We were supported during our presentation by a college and school who had achieved the quality in careers standard via C+K Careers. The panel was around 2 hours, and the application drew on evidence we had gathered over the past 3 years.

What does the Quality in Careers standard mean for C+K?

The Quality Standard is something we have offered for more than 20 years. It is hugely valuable in raising the profile of careers education, supporting innovation and development, and celebrating and sharing good practice across the schools and colleges in our network.

Careers education needs to begin early to provide young people with a good understanding of the options available to them. By engaging young people with careers information and guidance, we can help them feel more confident about their futures.

Kathryn Lea-Williams, Quality in Careers Standard Co-ordinator, C+K, said this of the achievement:

“I’m thrilled we have been re-licensed for another 3 years. It was great to hear such wonderful testimony from schools and colleges about what a positive impact the standard has had.”

Empowering schools to offer valuable careers provisions

The panel said they had no reservations whatsoever about licensing the awarding body for another 3 years. They cited comments from the school and college leaders who supported Kathryn during the panel in demonstrating the strength of the process.

Here’s a glimpse of what the school and college leaders had to say:

“Achieving the Standard helps us to transform students’ lives for the better”

“Our careers department is in the strongest position ever, due to the Standard”

“Gaining the Standard has helped me to gain not only extra status for the careers department but also more time and more staff – thereby more support for our students”

“It wasn’t just box-ticking, it was a really developmental learning process and enhanced our provision for the benefit of our students”
“The Quality in Careers Standard is literally our specialist ‘Careers Ofsted’”

This comes after C+K became the first provider in the country to be awarded “National Endorsement” by the Quality in Careers Consortium, for our Primary Careers Award in June 2021.

We’re proud to have the award licensed for a further 3 years. The more education and careers professionals can work together to deliver high quality careers education, the better the outlook for the next generation.
