Calderdale Summer Internship Programme 2026

This summer, the C+K Education Team have been busy coordinating and delivering the Calderdale Summer Internship Programme, following the success of the previous programme in 2025 and Calderdale Council's decision to recommission C+K to deliver it for a third year.

Designed to support Year 10 students across Calderdale schools who would benefit from additional careers and employability support, the programme combined interactive employability workshops with employer visits and team-building activities.

Sixteen Year 10 students dedicated a week of their summer holiday to take part in this exciting opportunity. Throughout the week, they developed key workplace skills including communication, teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving, while building confidence, making new friendships and gaining valuable insight into post-16 pathways.

A key feature of the programme was the opportunity for students to engage directly with local employers, giving them a practical, hands-on taste of the world of work and helping them understand the wide range of career opportunities available within their local area.

Through local visits and activities delivered in partnership with Galliford Try, Calderdale Council, Covéa, Victoria Theatre, CultureDale and Active Calderdale, students experienced real working environments, helping to raise aspirations, broaden horizons and strengthen their readiness for future education and employment.

"It was great to see the progress the Year 10 students made over the course of the week. Many arrived feeling a little nervous about meeting new people and engaging with employers. We designed lots of fun and meaningful activities to support interaction and they quickly grew in confidence, embraced the experience, and engaged positively with the opportunities on offer. Watching their confidence and motivation develop throughout the programme made it a rewarding and very enjoyable week for everyone involved."

Tanya Barry, Education Operations Manager

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the students who dedicated a week of their summer to take part in the programme, to our employer partners for providing such engaging, hands-on and inspiring activities, and to our commissioners Calderdale Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Together, we have created an unforgettable week of learning, growth and opportunities.
