Nexus - extended work experience placements

C&K Careers works in partnership NeHairdressing 006xus In-School, part of Kirklees Council to offer a range of extended work placement opportunities with local employers.

The service is designed for Year 11 students who are in school but would benefit from a more practical element to their current curriculum.  Project officers support students to attend their work placement for up to three days per week for the duration of Year 11.  The remaining time is spent in school studying a reduced number of core GCSE’s. Assessment and planning starts in June of Year 10 and all students have a dedicated project officer. As well as organising the students' work placement, project officers provide bespoke support which includes:

  • preparation for work placement
  • employer liaison
  • induction sessions covering health & safety, expectations and team building
  • minimum of fortnightly placement visits
  • attendance monitoring and reporting to schools
  • regular progress reviews with feedback to school and parents/carers
  • on-going mentoring and support
  • certificates of achievement
  • end of year portfolio with references
  • help with Post-16 transitions
