The twelve core principles of our culture

1. Work at Calderdale & Kirklees Careers (C&KC) is based on openness and trust. The Executive Team and managers aim to communicate extensively with all staff - but not overload them. Communication is two-way. Staff should keep managers informed of anything significant and share any issues, problems, difficulties, etc. The aim is to involve staff at all levels. Ideas are valued but it works better if proposals can be pretty well worked through.

2. C&KC is a supportive, non-blame culture employer. There is no need to hide mistakes. We correct them and learn from them. We work as a team.

3. C&KC will at all times do its upmost to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. Managers and staff will be aware of and follow the company's safeguarding policy and procedures.

4. C&KC intends this to be an enjoyable and safe workplace, does not tolerate harassment of any kind, shows respect for all, and preserves the dignity of all. Gossiping about colleagues is not acceptable.

5. C&KC’s reputation is all-important. It is guarded jealously. This is everyone’s responsibility.

6. Partnership is an important part of our work. We aim to be respected and reliable partners and deliverers.

7. Quality of service to clients and to colleagues is of paramount importance. Customer care is about doing the small things, e.g. answering phones quickly and in a friendly, polite, helpful way, as well as the big things. Above all - keep your promises.

8. C&KC puts a lot of store by, and invests heavily in, the development of staff. We hope staff will respond by making the most of these opportunities.

9. It is important to be organised, be up to date and on time, follow the systems, respond quickly and co-operatively to managers’ requests, keep up with emails and use IT effectively.

10. Sickness absence - C&KC is supportive of colleagues when they are ill and makes generous provisions. However, we take a dim view of abuse of sick leave and have systems to deal with it.

11. Use the Intranet - all the company’s documents, terms and conditions, procedures, otes of important meetings, bulletins, are all there.

Contract management

Contract filesC&K Careers is highly regarded by its partners for its ability to manage contracts and achieve targets. This is one of the reasons we maintain a high degree of tendering success in the extremely competitive careers market. During 2013/14, we successfully delivered services on over 50 different contracts.

Performance management

We implement a stringent contract management process that monitors our performance and ensures full compliance with funding provider requirements, all metrics and milestones, as well as best practice guidelines and current legislation. As part of our contract management, we recruit, train and develop a highly trained and qualified workforce with the appropriate skills, knowledge and experience to deliver the agreed objectives.

Over 90% of our advisers are educated to level 4 or above.

Our Adult Services team not only met but exceeded its National Careers Service targets for 2013/14, delivering at 100.5% against a higher target than in 2012/13, which ranks us as the highest member of the Careers Yorkshire and the Humber partnership.

Four C&K Careers adult advisers were nominated by their clients for the Regional Extra Mile Awards for the 2013/14 contract, Richard Clifford won the Award in the general category.

We are a financially robust organisation with a strong balance sheet and high liquidity, supported by strict administrative controls to make sure we deliver value for money. We operate in an open and transparent way, demonstrating the utmost business and commercial integrity.

Our people

C&K Careers staff at our annual conferenceWe have a highly experienced management team each with a proven track record in managing contracts, meeting targets and delivering results for our clients.

Our staff are all dedicated and well qualified – over 90% of our advisers are educated to level 4 or above in advice and guidance. Staff are organised into teams offering specialist expertise, including careers information, advice and guidance, work with NEET young people, IAG and CEIAG training, support to employers and training providers, and ICT services.

Our board

Based in West Yorkshire, the company is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and operates as a social enterprise across the country. Our Board of Directors comprises up to three appointed members from: Calderdale Council, Kirklees Council and the University of Huddersfield, and one from the National Children's Centre. Our Chair of the Board is Stephen Boyd, ‎Head of Careers & Employability at the University of Huddersfield.
