Record breaking numbers attend careers event opened by former Giant to get information and advice on their future options
The Get Inspired careers event for Y11 students and their parents was opened by former Huddersfield Giant Eorl Crabtree and saw over 2300 young people and their parents attend. This annual event held at John Smith’s Stadium is organised for students in the Kirklees area by C&K Careers in partnership with Kirklees Council.
Those attending had the chance to speak to a range of sixth forms, FE Colleges, employers, HE providers and training providers about opportunities open to them in the future. Some took the opportunity to get a hands on experience in the interactive area holding bearded dragons, trying our hair and beauty techniques, getting involved in SFX makeup, all giving them more insight into what it would be like to study in that area. Plans for the exciting new development for the Dewsbury Learning Quarter were also available for attendees to see.
In addition, a range of presentations took place with the Post 16 opportunities and Degree Apprenticeships talks proving particularly popular.
Young people and exhibitors found the event very useful commenting on the helpful advice, the range of information and exhibitors, busy atmosphere and said it made them aware of different routes for their future.
Sally Horner, Education Manager at C&K Careers was delighted with the attendance saying “Young people are faced with an array of choices so we are pleased we can offer them a helping hand. This event gives them the chance to explore different options available to them and begin to make informed decisions about their future.”
