Working in careers at a school in North Yorkshire Lucy’s school were looking into accrediting their careers provision. After visiting the Career Works stand at an event and chatting to staff she was impressed by how friendly and informative they were. As part of the accreditation Lucy would need to be qualified to level 6 (currently at level 4) and she was pleased to discover she could do both with Career Works and thought it offered good value for money.
Initially hesitant to take on a qualification after working successfully at level 4 for 13 years Lucy really enjoyed each of the three units and found they really helped her reflect on what she was doing, how she was doing it and why. She also looked at Career Guidance theories again bringing her knowledge of theory up to date. The section on Labour Market Information was particularly useful for Lucy as was already focussing on this area in school. The most useful unit was Reflect on and Improve Professional Practice, this unit helped her take extra time to focus on the whole picture. Overall the qualification reminded her that her personal development plays an important part in the support that she gives to students in her school.
Lucy would recommend Career Works to others going on to say “I was very lucky with my Mentor, he was very supportive, patient, easy to contact and always got back to me very quickly. In his own way, I think he was good at getting that little more out of me and made me dig deeper into my understanding and thoughts about what I was doing. I was unable to attend the study day on Career Guidance Theories and he took the time to answer all my questions”.
