Grow your Future 2015, the post 16 opportunities in Calderdale event for Year 11 students and their parents/carers was a big success. The Calderdale post 16 event was organised by Calderdale Council as a way of introducing the options open to young people. It was supported by C&K Careers and attended by nearly 1,400 young people and their parents/carers.
Pupils from all Calderdale schools attended the event, where they were able to speak to school sixth forms, colleges, further education providers, universities, work-based training providers and employers from across the region. Year 11s now have to stay in education or training until at least their 18th birthday, so it is important they make the right decision about their future.
C&K Careers advisers and local authority teams were on hand to provide advice and information on careers, training and education as well as information on money, benefits, disability support and more. The event also included a series of presentations on apprenticeships; further education; higher education; including presentations by C&K Careers staff on post 16 choices and the future of the UK workforce.
All young people received a copy of C&K Careers' 'Get Organised booklet' at the event, which contains information on a range of post 16 options, qualifications and training.
Feedback from parents, carers and young people was very positive with many comments about the help, good advice, information they received and the range of stands.
